The Chelmsford Law Clinic aims to improve the availability of free legal advice in the Chelmsford area.

About

The Chelmsford Law Clinic aims to provide free, independent, confidential and impartial legal advice to everyone within the community and surrounding areas of Chelmsford.

The Clinic started as a fortnightly service based in the Civic Centre run by a single volunteer. During a successful 4 months trial period, we had contact with almost 100 individual clients who needed help. In total, we booked over 10 hours of free legal advice.

Chelmsford Citizens Advice offered to help expand and consolidate the service within the Citizens Advice brand. This has been a fantastic opportunity to secure the long-term future of the Clinic. The Clinic is now based within the Citizens Advice building.

There are still many challenges moving forward. I hope that you will help share and promote the Clinic so that we can help as many people as possible.

As a long-term goal, the Clinic hopes to become a referral hub for a variety of local legal support organisations. This will allow the Clinic to ensure that you are supported throughout every step of your legal journey.

To learn more about other local legal organisations and events, please go to our Community and Local Organisations pages.

The Clinic will open from 10.00am to 16.00pm every Tuesday and Friday.

Our Service

Primarily, the Clinic will offer Family law advice (typically involving divorce or child arrangements). You are welcome to contact us even if your case is not a family law issue as we may be able to point you in the right direction. Please go to Our Service for more information.

Please also check out our Local Organisations page to learn more about other local legal support charities and organisations that might be able to help you.

As we grow, we hope to expand into other legal areas such as immigration, employment and housing on a permanent basis. However, this goal is dependent on establishing the demand for such a service as well as the availability of local law firms/solicitors.

The higher the demand, the easier it will be to justify our expansion. Help us, help you.
